This next week, we’re heading on vacation to San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma…one of my favorite vacation areas. We’re taking kid #2, the one without any allergies, and leaving the 2 rashy kids at home (with plenty of epi-pens, detailed feeding instructions including labels on all approved foods, and lots of prayer that nothing bad happens).
All the prep work will be worth it to live a week in the life of a “normal family.” We’re going to spend the time eating and watching our girl enjoy foods she never knew existed…. non-midwestern pizza at Pizzetta 211, fleur de sel caramels at Recchiuti, macroons and cake at Miette, egg noodles at Bistro Jeanty, quiche and chocolate bouchons at Bouchon Bakery, ahi burgers and malts at Gott’s Roadside, pork cheek sandwiches at Bovolo, a slice of pizza at Cheeseboard Collective followed by absolutely anything and everything at Chez Panisse.We may ruin her. I’m looking forward to fearlessly feeding a child without reading a single label for a whole week and enjoying the bittersweet joy of what life could be like…if only…..0
