    S’more Prep

We’re packed up for some tent camping at Lake Michigan this weekend. Well, actually I’ll be staying at my folk’s house with our youngest while my husband roughs it with the girls down at the state park campground.  It’s not that I’m averse to tenting, hubby and I spent our first 10 weeks of marriage on a camping roadtrip up the West coast and into Canada. But when a nice bed, AC and a coffeemaker are just a few blocks away at grandparents’ house…I’m choosing that! Part of the fun with camping is making camp food.  All the goods for hobo pies, bacon and pancakes, and s’mores are ready to go.

Obviously, you don’t need a recipe for s’mores, just the technical know-how.  I used to pack Divvies chocolate chips, try to stack them on the bottom graham cracker and hope they’d stay put while placing and smashing the toasted marshmallow into the s’more sandwich. More often then not, chocolate chips ended out in the sand and didn’t melt too well. Now I pre-melt chips in the microwave and spread the chocolate chips on the graham cracker before we go and they’re perfect!

Great Idea! I have seen bars of “safe” chocolate at Meijers in W. Michigan but I think they are pretty pricey. This probably speeds up the S’more assembly as well 🙂 Thanks for the tip and enjoy your ‘camping’

Enjoy life makes “safe” candy bars. I use them for s’mores.

I, too, use the Enjoy Life Choco Boom Boom dark chocolate candy bars for smores. Delicious! They also have rice milk chocolate bars with rice krispies in them (think allergy friendly Crunch bars)

You’re welcome Stacy. Thanks for reminding me how good they are, I just made them for my kids again this weekend. I forgot what an easy recipe it is to make!

Love this idea. I’ve used Enjoy Life bars too, but they’re so thick they don’t melt/soften the way a Hershey’s bar does. I’ve yet to try the following idea, but have wondered how good canned chocolate frosting would be on smores. I have no problem finding some safe brands and it would be easy to pack for a trip and spread on the cracker.
